J.R. Vinagro accepted the challenge of removing McCoy Stadium, a Rhode Island landmark in Pawtucket. We completed the demolition down to the supporting foundations, including the removal of hazardous material and excavating 6 feet below the existing slabs. The job involved hauling 18,800 tons of concrete and crushing approximately 5,000 tons. We also salvaged two sets of aluminum stands and both foul poles from the baseball field. We are privileged to have removed such a memorable and important landmark so that a new high school can be built in its place.
One of the challenges we experienced in the demolition of the stadium was removing large pieces of concrete. A majority of the stadium was made from concrete, and two pieces that needed to be removed weighed upwards of 20 tons. These sections were part of the seating for the stadium; we overcame this challenge by utilizing a crane to remove the pieces safely and efficiently while also keeping them intact.
Demolition for this job has been completed. The site of the once famous stadium for the longest game in baseball history, has been removed of all debris from the stadium demolition and rough graded for safety using existing site materials. We were privileged to be able to complete the demo for the historic stadium and we look forward to seeing the school that will be taking its place.
