JR Vinagro is under contract to demolish the Henderson Bridge, connecting Providence to East Providence, RI. Also known as the Red Bridge, Henderson is a 24-span steel girder structure which spans 2,000 feet over the Seekonk River and carries 20,000 vehicles per day. JRV makes use of its full range of demolition expertise with spans over local roadways, 50’ above water level, and over the shoreline.
As the terrain underneath the bridge varies significantly, the demolition solution was tailored to each span accordingly. When able, concrete was demolished to below for efficient loadout, while over the river or environmentally sensitive areas, the bridge deck was flipped. Steel removal varied from hoisting beams with excavators to tandem crane picks.
By altering our means and methods to the most appropriate solution for each span, J.R. Vinagro was able to efficiently demolish the first phase of the project.
